Stephen Metcalfe, Member of Parliament for South Basildon and East Thurrock, met with his constituents Jan Curtis, Ann Nash & Linda Allen today (26/06/2019) as part of a 15 000 people strong climate change lobby on Parliament.
As many as 15,000 people from across the country travelled to London on Wednesday to take part in The Time is Now campaign. The demonstration took place outside to Westminster where passionate local advocates met with an estimated 250 MPs to call for drastic action to tackle climate change and environmental degradation locally and worldwide.
Stephen Metcalfe said: “Climate change is an undeniably significant threat which we have to work to address. There are solutions we can adopt in the UK to go beyond the net zero carbon emissions target by 2050.
We must act as an advocate to lead on this global challenge and show that this is an opportunity to be grasped not just a risk to be managed”.
Jan Curtis, local environmental advocate said: “We were delighted that Stephen took the time to meet us today. We are passionate about protecting the environment both locally and globally so that our children and grandchildren can enjoy the benefits of nature we have.
We felt Stephen really listened to us and took our points on board. We look forward to seeing him advocate for us in Parliament”.
