Stephen Metcalfe, MP for South Basildon & East Thurrock, recently visited North East London NHS Foundation Trust’s (NELFT) new Integrated Medical and Wellbeing Centre in Corringham which provides a broad range of services to the community.
As many people know, healthcare in Thurrock is undergoing a redevelopment. The Better Care Together Thurrock programme, an alliance of commissioners and healthcare providers, aims, in time, to replace Orsett Hospital with four integrated medical and wellbeing centres. These centres will focus on providing high quality healthcare at the right place and right time, keeping paperwork to a minimum and working with councillors to provide local solutions.
NELFT’s centre in Corringham, which opened in November 2022, is the first of the planned centres. On 3 March, Stephen visited the new facility to hear about the centre’s broad range of services which include mental health services, GP services, sexual health services, podiatry services, nutritionists, long-term conditions, blood testing and outpatient services. The centre’s emphasis on wellbeing and all-round health focuses on reducing the number of hospital admissions.
Stephen Metcalfe said: “It was a pleasure to visit Corringham’s Integrated Medical and Wellbeing Centre. It provides an enormous range of services and is exactly the type of facility that is needed to keep people out of hospital and promote general wellbeing.
I would like to thank the staff for providing such a high standard of care for people across the local area.
I very much hope to see this innovative model replicated more widely across Thurrock and beyond.”
